CCIM Spring Meeting in Ft Worth April 21 -24, 2009
Report by Manfred Chemek CO WY CCIM Chapter VP 2009 April 27, 2009
IAC International Activities Committee report.
We now have country liaison CCIM's who network and report on business opportunities and chapter needs in Japan, China, Korea, and Mexico. Future liaisons are planned for Russia and other parts of Europe. Number of International students for 2008 (1445) was up 12% over 2007. Number of courses in 2008 (43) up 19% over 2007. 2009 Students are down 37% below budget similar to US which is down 39%. Traditional International trade missions supported by leadership and staff will be cut for 2009 for budget reasons. Volunteers are discussing trade missions to Canada. Mexico and Expo Real in Munich in 2009. New international partners for possible future CCIM courses are South Africa.
India, National Association of Realtors India, NARI. Brazil SECOVI Brazilian Real Estate Association, excellent commercial Realtors and developers, member of FIABCI and RICS, The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors.
RICS is CCIM's largest competition in the world of professional real estate. RICS has 140,000 members worldwide in 146 countries. They have 3,000 members in the US. Their World Headquarters are in London and the US Headquarters are in Washington DC. CCIM Education takes about 150 hours. RICS education takes 450 hours. We do have several CCIM's who also have the RICS Designation. We now have formed a CCIM “RICS Alliance Work group” to see how we can work together and have CCIM's be able to get the RICS designation and RICS members to get the CCIM designation. These RICS designees would be a fresh source of candidates for our CCIM classes to market to. For many years RICS resisted working with CCIM because they have their own education and recognition, but now they are looking for technology and CCIM with STDB in the new courses offers what they are lacking.
At the fall CCIM meetings in Hawaii October 2009, RICS and CCIM signed a mutual agreement to fast track their members to get the CCIM and FRICS designations.
